How to Make Bath Bombs With the Wow Factor

I just love making skin and body products which I sell at a local Farmers Market and one of my most popular selling items is the bath bomb. I am assuming you know how to make bath bombs, but I will give you the basic recipe that I enjoy using with great success plus I will give you some ideas on how to make bath bombs with the wow factor.

For my basic bath bomb recipe I use the following ingredients:

500 grams of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda)
250 grams of citric acid (granular or fine powder)
100 mls of oil blend

This recipe gives a good bomb that fizzes well in the bath. You can add more citric acid if you want it even fizzier, but I think this amount works just fine. The tricky bit with making any type of bath bomb is during the stage of mixing the oils in as there is a fine balance to getting just the right amount of liquid absorbed, without setting off the chemical reaction that gives the bomb its "fizz." I find it is best to put the oils into a plastic bottle with a trigger and then carefully spray, ONE spray at a time, stirring all the time. Spray evenly around the combined ingredients repeating the spray/stir action, stirring consistently and taking care not to over wet the ingredients. Once the mixture begins to hold together and will form a ball shape when pressed by hand, STOP SPRAYING. Think wet sand castles because this is the consistency you are aiming for. You then need to pile the mixture into your molds by packing it in as tightly as possible so you overfill each half. Then press the two halves together just the once. Do not twist or you will end up with 2 halves of a bath bomb. It doesn't matter whether or not the two halves are lined up nicely or even if they are closed, at this stage you are simply encouraging the mixture into a nicely rounded shape. Remember, the more mix you pack into your molds, the fizzier they will be.

So, how to make bath bombs with the wow factor? To achieve this you need to be able to create good combinations of essential oils with different carrier oils, such as almond oil, avocado oil, apricot kernel oil, to name but a few. Experiment with adding colours and glitter for a very pretty, girlie type bomb. One of my favourite bath bombs has to be a decadent chocolate bomb where I use 50g grated cocoa butter, which is combined with the other dry ingredients, and then I add a blend of almond oil and chocolate fragrance. I also colour it a chocolate colour and grate a small amount from a chocolate bar into the mold before I put in the mix. The result is a luxurious, moisturising bomb which has small flecks of cocoa butter showing in it and smells good enough to eat!

The heart shaped bath bomb molds that you can buy also produce a bath bomb with the wow effect since you can place a combination of rose petals or dried rosehips in the mold or alternatively dried lavender flowers look gorgeous if put in the bottom of the mold. Just be careful not to overdose on the extras like dried botanicals and glitter because obviously all of these things will end up in the bath water and not everyone likes to sit in a tub of soggy petals!

How to make bath bombs with the wow factor is all about experimentation and letting your creative juices flow. At the end of the day, the only limit is your imagination! Have fun!

How to Make your own Bath Bomb

There's nothing like a hot bath to soak away the stresses of the day or to pamper yourself before that all-critical date. Most bathtub connoisseurs go the additional step to add tub salts or bubbles to their ritual. Unfortunately, a good deal of bathtub products contain some rather suspect components (believe parabens, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances. . ., but there are tons of DIY remedies for this dilemma, and homemade bathtub bombs are not only enjoyable, they leave your skin feeling soft and rejuvenated.

Tub bombs work a lot like those volcano projects you built in grade school, the ones where you added vinegar to baking soda for an explosive, fizzy reaction?except the acid in tub bombs is lot much more body-friendly, and there's no mess to clean up at the end of the day. They combine baking soda and citric acid powder, which react only after you drop the bomb into h2o. In the bath, the bombs bounce around, fizzing and releasing crucial oils into the h2o and air, making your tub a enjoyable and luxuriously custom affair.

You can get tub bombs at a good deal of drugstores, and several businesses produce some great nearly-natural bathtub bombs. But they're fairly effortless to make, and if you have a scent or skin sensitivity, this is the perfect solution for you.

You'll will need:

Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
Citric acid (fine)
Witch Hazel
Crucial oils
Molds (max. diameter 2 inches)
Rubber gloves (optional)

How to Make Your Own Bath Bombs:
To make bath bombs, mix one particular part citric acid and two parts sodium bicarbonate (baking soda). If you love sea salts or Epsom salts in your bath, you can also add one particular part of either salt, just be certain it's a fine grain. Make certain these dry components are blended well, otherwise your bathtub bomb may well be a dud.

When the dry elements are blended, add in your crucial oils for scent. Crucial oils are derived from plants, so many folks who are sensitive or allergic to synthetic scents can handle the real thing. If you have pollen allergies, steer clear of oils from flowers and opt instead for herbs. There is no limit on your creativity here. You can add just one particular oil, such as lavender, or a personal blend, such as rosemary and mint.

The next step is a bit tricky. Utilizing a spray bottle, spray witch hazel into the combination whilst blending continuously. As soon as the combination starts to stick together when you press down on it, you need to get it into the molds.

Most tub bombs are spherical, but you can also use rubber ice-cube molds to make a lot more festive shapes like hearts, four-leaf clovers and even Santa Claus. Be certain to firmly pack the mixture in the ice-cube molds.

Producing a sphere is a little much more effort, but absolutely worth it if you're gifting the bath bombs. Merely pack the mixture into two dome molds, heaping additional blend on top, then squeeze the open ends of the molds together to create a sphere (don't worry if some of the combination spills out at the seam?spillage means the blend is dense enough so that the tub bomb won't crumble when it hits the drinking water).

Soon after a number of minutes, gently tap the bombs out of the molds and enable bath bombs to dry on a towel for at least a couple of hours, but preferably overnight. Wrap bath bombs in plain tissue paper and retailer in a plastic, airtight container until you're ready to use them. Don't shop the bombs in metal containers, and don't rest them on metal between baths, as the elements will react with the container.

Every bathtub bomb really should last at least a couple of baths, if not much more-it truly just depends on the size of the bomb...and how long you soak in the tub!

Plastic Bottle Bombs

So there’s a new, DANGEROUS, fad that has been goin around recently. It’s called “Plastic Bottle Bombing”, also known as “acid bombs.” There is an email being forwarded that warns people to be careful of ‘bottle bombs.’ Bottle bombs are homemade explosives consisting of water, Drano, and aluminum foil in a plastic bottle. So basically they are turning “Pure Life” bottles into “Pure Death” bottles. I didn’t believe it when I got it, so I checked it out…apparently it’s TRUE, and it’s catching popularity.
Here is what the email looks like:
Subject: Fw: Good information for everyone!
Check SNOPES……………
Good safety info that I never heard of; be careful and watch the video if you don’t believe it.
Pay attention to this.
1. A plastic bottle with a cap.
2. A little Drano.
3. A little water.
4. A small piece of foil.
5. Disturb it by moving it; and BOOM!!
6. No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.
People are finding these bombs in mailboxes and in their yards, just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in the trash. But, you’ll never make it!!! It takes about 30 seconds to blow after you move the thing. See “SNOPES” below….it’s true. This happened a few days ago…April 27, as a matter of fact.
So of course I checked it out, and it’s pretty crazy how much of a blast you can get with just a few household items. BUT, remember, homemade “bottle bombs” have been around for at least 20 years, though they’ve been known by different names; including “acid bombs,” “Drano bombs,” “works bombs,” “pressure bombs,” and “MacGyver bombs.” Good thing it wasn’t called a “MacGruber Bomb”…because then it would bomb by itself…just like the movie did.
A LOT of teenagers are using these to pull of some mad pranks because they can easily be made with common household items that mom has. It’s even easier because parents could ask what they’re doing with the items and they could just say that it’s for a science experiment. But police warn that they are unpredictable and dangerous. Police have determined that even being caught with one of these bombs would be considered a felony, especially if injuries or property damages happen. It’s a crazy concept, but very easy to create.
The way a bottle bomb works is simple. When the aluminum foil touches the Drano solution, a strong chemical reaction occurs, releasing a gas that causes pressure to build up inside the plastic bottle, which eventually explodes. The boiling liquid that spews out in various directions from the explosion can cause second or third degree burns, and/or blindness. There are TONS of YouTube videos that demonstrate how to construct and detonate the bombs…and I’m sure ones that show people’s fingers getting blown off.
There have been many incidents of this happening to people, and it’s pretty intense. If anything, it will make you give a second take to a plastic bottle on the side of the road. Here’s a video explaining what it’s all about:
